Road works

Each year we carry out regular maintenance works to keep our roads around the district in tip-top shape.

Well-maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe. While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible, we know that roadworks can be inconvenient. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we do this important work.

Local roads throughout Kāpiti are resurfaced with chipseal or asphalt between the months of November and March every year. During resurfacing work, traffic management plans are put in place to make sure there is as little disruption as possible to road users.

Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits. Most of this work is weather dependent so we’ll keep you in the loop if anything changes.

Current programme of work

RAUMATI ROAD MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

Now that Expressway construction traffic is off Raumati Road, we need to do some work to repair the road surface between Rimu and Rata Roads. We've carried out some works to repair this section, and we'll need to come back in mid July to finish off a small section near Rata Road. We'll let you know more about this closer to the time.

NIGHT WORKS ON KĀPITI AND RAUMATI ROADS

Throughout June we're carrying out road maintenance and resurfacing work at night on Kāpiti Road and Raumati Road in the following locations:

Where and when:

  • Kāpiti Road between Arawhata Road and Rimu Road (Sunday 25 and Monday 26 June)
  • Mazengarb Road and Guildford Road roundabout (Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 June)

There will be some disruption while this work is carried out our contractors will aim to keep noise to a minimum. Once work starts, traffic management will be in place between 7pm and 5.30am each night to allow the works to progress.

POPLAR AVENUE SHARED PATH IMPROVEMENTS

We’re upgrading the footpath on the north side of Poplar Avenue between Matai Road and Glen Road to provide a safe and consistent shared pathway for people travelling to and between the Raumati South Village, the Mackays to Peka Peka Shared Pathway and the Te Awa o Whareroa Cycleway in Queen Elizabeth Park. The project involves removing the existing footpath and replacing it with a new 2.5 metre shared path. This improvements are expected to be completed by August.

TE MOANA ROAD/PARK AVENUE INTERSECTION UPGRADE

We’re upgrading the Te Moana Road and Park Avenue intersection to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility. The work involves shifting the existing bus stop eastwards and installing a central refuge on Te Moana Road to improve pedestrian and cyclist access across Te Moana Road to Greenaway Road.

The kerb line at the Te Moana Road and Park Avenue intersection will be moved to reduce traffic speeds and make it safer and easier for people to cross the road. Work to upgrade the intersection is expected to be complete by August.

WAITOHU VALLEY ROAD WIDENING

Work to widen Waitohu Valley Road to address safety concerns raised by residents through the 2016/17 Annual Plan process will are underway.

The work to widen the road will be carried out in stages and is expected to be complete by late August. There will be some disruption while contractors work to widen the road but this will be kept to a minimum and traffic management will be in place at all times.

NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. If bad weather strikes, work will be postponed to the next suitable night.

We're also carrying out a range of improvements down Raumati Road to align with Kapiti College's changes.
